Caterham, the small British car manufacturer, was founded in 1973 and is currently based in Crawley, Sussex, England.

The original model launched back in 1973, called Caterham 7, is still in production, having evolved mechanically along the years, but kept the original design almost unchanged. The 7 is a direct evolution of the Series 3 Lotus Seven designed by Colin Chapman, the British engineer and inventor who founded Lotus.

In the 1990s the company made the Caterham 21, a two-seater soft-top alternative to the MGF and Lotus Elise. However, the 21 never sold very well, with only 48 ever made, so it was abandoned.

Caterham continued the tradition of the kit cars, pioneered by Chapman at Lotus, and still offers the 7 (Seven) as a CKD (complete knock down) kit or, for those who are not fans of tinkering, fully assembled units.
